Filmmaking is such a difficult process that I’m a big advocate of taking a moment to celebrate every milestone, no matter how fleeting that moment may be. So while I was quite busy yesterday dealing with bugs on the web site, firing out our press release and responding to queries (while simultaneously packing and traveling to the Okanagan with my family), I made sure to steal a bit of time to merely bask in the glow of accomplishment. We made something, and we shared it with the world. And a lot of people liked it. There’s no better feeling than that.
But now I sit at my computer one day later, and not much has changed. We’re still on a full court press to complete the cut in time to preview it for exhibitors, submit it to a film festival or two, etc. So this morning I’m giving notes on a new cut of the first 30 minutes of the film so it’ll be ready to show to our distribution and marketing guys on Monday. (It’s looking really good, BTW.) Meanwhile, I have two cameramen out in the field shooting some b-roll and pick-up footage–one in Israel and one in Chicago. And I’m blogging (obviously), posting new items to our resource page and working with my co-producer to prepare for next week’s meetings, where we’ll be mapping out our entire distribution and marketing strategy.
It’s a little daunting to think about all we have to do over the next several months, but it’s also tremendously exciting. Releasing the teaser trailer is a major milestone, but be assured that a number of other announcements–and fleeting moments of celebration–are on the way.
