I have to disagree that the atonement was not planned by God all along. His own disciples said in prayer towards the Father,

For truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. (Acts 4:27-28)

And further than this Jesus Himself said,

For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. (John 10:17).

No one took Jesus’s life away from Him, He lay it down. He sacrificed Himself and He did so according to God’s plan. By His death sin was destroyed, and by His resurrection death was defeated. Through it all He bought us back from Satan and set us free from death, sin, and Gehenna. This is the historical view and it makes the most sense to me.

I t changed my life. I had had so many doubts through my life and could never come to terms with the traditional teachings on the Cross, Hell. Instead I always felt that Christ died for what he stood for…well I won`t go further here. As I read through Derek Floods pages – it took me three months or so of lunchtimes by myself – totally absorbed I realised this is what I had always believed until it suddenly dawned on me thaT YES God loves us all.
