Perhaps I should just hand over my blogging duties to Drew Smith. After reading my protracted screed against Hell Is Real (But I Hate to Admit It)--which was inspired by a message from Drew--he responded with two quotes: One from C. S. Lewis and the other from Lewis's hero, George McDonald. To McDonald first:
The Lord never came to deliver men from the consequences of their sins while yet those sins remained: that would be to

Brian Jones is the kind of Christian who creates atheists. Ironically, his contribution to atheism is probably directly proportional to his efforts to convert people to Christianity. In fact, I'll take things one step further and say Brian's contribution to the rise in atheism is inversely proportional to his evangelism efforts. That is, I'm willing to bet that for every person he "saves," he renders at least 5-10 people incapable of ever taking Christianity seriously again. Who is this Brian Jones, and why am I being so hard on him? For starters, he's the founder and senior pastor of

I just returned from 10 hours in the mixing room with our sound designer Murray Stiller (pictured). You'd think that would be more than enough time to finalize the sound mix on an approximately 85-minute film, but things rarely work out that way. Of course, now that I've stopped worrying so much about the picture and content, this is the point at which I realize we could do with a bit more music here, slightly alter that music there, and so on. I'll get one more crack at the end of June. But for now, I have to say I'm

For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone. -- Lamentations

One of the perks of producing your own movie is being able to put some of your favorite musicians in the film. As of today we have licensed music from three of my favorite bands/artists: Both Ari and YUCA are local to BC, which makes their involvement doubly cool. And Crematoria, well, they are simply an amazing band we met while filming at Copenhell last year. Doubly amazing seeing as none of them are old enough to buy alcohol in the US. Of course, then there is our original score by

Four of the Hellbound? "cast" will be there: Frank Schaeffer, Michael Hardin, Brad Jersak and Brian McLaren. Not to mention Raborn Johnson of Beyond the Box podcast. And none of them will be roped off in a VIP section with all the bigwigs. They'll be camping out just like everyone else. And I highly doubt any of them has ever said no to a free beer. (Well, perhaps Frank did in his former life...) So here's your chance to get chummy. As if that's not motivation enough, check out

You know you're close to the finish line when you're working out the finer points of the film's score. That's one of the many things I'm doing right now in collaboration with composer Marcus Zuhr and my sound design team. Here's a brief teaser of a piece Marcus calls "Bob Larson's Demons." Bob Larson's Demons (1) -
